Equal access should not require an obstacle course.
Somewhere welcomes applicants and residents with disabilities. We consider reasonable requests that may help a person with a disability apply for, access, use or enjoy their home.
What Can Someone Request?
A reasonable accommodation is a change or exception to a rule, policy, practice or procedure connected to a person's disability.
A reasonable modification is a physical change to a resident's room or another part of the home.
Requests are considered individually because people are individuals, not diagnoses with matching instruction manuals.
How to Make a Request
An applicant, resident or authorized representative may request an accommodation verbally or in writing.
No magic words or special form are required. Simply explain:
- The change or exception being requested
- That the request is related to a disability
- How the request would help the person use or enjoy the home

What Happens Next?
We will review the request, talk with the person if more information is needed and provide a response as promptly as reasonably possible.
When a disability or the need for an accommodation is not obvious, we may request limited information confirming the disability-related need.
We will not ask for an entire medical record just to decide whether a reasonable accommodation can be made.
Each request is evaluated based on the person's needs, the specific home and the nature of the requested change.
Accessibility Varies by Home
Somewhere operates residential homes and their layouts and accessibility features may differ. A particular home may have stairs, narrow doorways or bathrooms that have not been modified for mobility access.
Tell us what is needed. We would rather have an honest conversation about the home than pretend every property works for every person.
No Retaliation
Somewhere will not retaliate against an applicant or resident for requesting a reasonable accommodation or modification or for exercising fair-housing rights.
